Although this is Vol 2 of this series, as you all suspected... I have not heard Vol 1. Mmm, well that's how it goes down here I guess. Anyhow... its been a while since I was in a mood for this deep ocean of tropical Peruvian, indigenous traditional Afro-Latin percussion beats. I rented Cuban Social the other night and sort of enjoyed it. The movie has been a round f or years but I never got around to watching it. The bar I worked in had a Mexican Restaurant next to it and the soundtrack ate at my stomach lining for years as I could always hear it persistent and emotionlessly pressing the paper of the speakers out. Having found enough distance from those days now almost 10 years later I felt it was time to watch the movie. I know Cuban and Mexicano is not the same but I guess the waitrons didn't get it and thought the patrons wouldn't really notice as they occupied themselves with chilly burns instead.
Luckily only six months after the Vol 1, Vol 2 has appeared. Don't worry, none of it is new, All the tracks were laid down and recorded in the 60's. 'Unearthed' the fat rich bastards in New York call it. Teehee, I bet they also named "pre-rock" pre-rock.
Igozalo Bugalu Tropical is tropical, hot, percussion layered and unafraid. Relentless. The proximity of Colombia and Venezuela made sure that cumbia was popular as well.
This second sampler gives you another sabroso taste of a very special period in Peru’s musical and social history. You make it down to track 11 just when you start forgetting what you listening to and the tracks one by one start to slip into the background and "Melcochita con Betico sallas su Sonora" pulls you out of your pants and puts her beautiful foot on your chest as you look up at her smooth strong legs and the sight blows your mind. From there the Album catches a new breath and Funks out some totally rare gems!
Now I'm wiggle round the house doing my little salsa wobble and forward backward steps, nice... try it. Essential for every single collection no matter how hard you like your tunes!
